Facts about cephalosporin antibiotics revealed

Cephalexin - Cephalexin is prescribed for the treatment of certain bacterial infections and is one of the cephalosporin antibiotics. Before taking this medication, you should know some facts about it.

If you have symptoms of a bacterial infection such as fever and high white blood cells, your doctor will most likely prescribe the antibiotic cephalexin. This special cephalosporin antibiotic was developed to treat infections of the middle ear, skin, bones, urinary tract, respiratory system and reproductive system and is particularly effective in eliminating certain types of bacteria. For this reason, your doctor will ask you to perform certain tests to identify the bacterial species that cause the infection.

How does cephalexin work?

Taking antibiotics as part of the treatment of bacterial infections should be taken seriously. To begin with, you need to determine whether you are allergic to any of the ingredients or whether you have had an allergic reaction to another antibiotic in the same group in the past. Cephalexin binds to the bacteria and prevents the body from building its cell wall. As soon as the cell wall is penetrated and broken open, the bacteria are killed.

Dosage and administration

You can choose from three different forms of this drug: tablet, capsule, or liquid, all taken orally. The usual duration of administration is seven (7) days two to four times a day. Remember that cephalexin only works when the entire treatment is finished. Otherwise, the risk of recurrence is high if you do not follow the prescribed treatment duration. If there are any doubts or ambiguities about taking this medication, just call your doctor. It is not uncommon for symptoms to go away after a few days, and you should continue to take it even if you are already feeling better.

Side effects and other precautions

Due to certain side effects such as nausea and / or vomiting, diarrhea and rash, this antibiotic is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. People taking other medicines such as warfarin and probenecid should tell their doctor to prevent complications such as internal bleeding from taking cephalexin in addition to other medicines.
